5 home-staging tips for a quick sale
There are three key steps you can take to help sell a home quickly:

- Stage it for maximum buyer appeal
It’s the latter that will likely require the most effort on your part, but if you’re willing to do that legwork, you could wind up with an offer sooner than you’d think.
If you’re not familiar with the concept of home staging, it’s essentially the process of setting up your home to make it look magazine-worthy. But home staging isn’t just about helping your property look nice; it’s also about appealing to a wide range of buyers. Here are a few home staging essentials to follow as you gear your property up for a sale.
1. Boost your curb appeal
A successful home staging effort often starts outdoors, since your exterior is the first thing potential buyers will see when they arrive to view your property. Make sure your lawn is trimmed, your bushes and shrubs look neat, and your fence is newly painted. If your siding needs a power-wash, tackle that, too.
Not only is clutter unsightly, but it also makes interior spaces seem smaller than they really are. One of the most important things you can do in the course of staging your home is to remove the items that normally sit on furniture and countertops. Box up those belongings, and stick them neatly in the corner of your garage, in a closet down in the basement, or even in an outside storage unit while you’re trying to get your home sold. And make an effort to keep your bathroom countertops clear, too. This isn’t easy, but invest in some toiletry organizers so you can scoop up toothbrushes, lotions, and makeup in a flash.
3. Depersonalize your living space
The family photos you normally have displayed on your fireplace mantel? For home-staging purposes, they’ll need to go. The same holds true for the unique piece of artwork you have on display in your family room or the numerous school projects and report cards tacked up on your fridge. Potential buyers who visit your home need to be able to envision that space as their own. The less personalized it seems to you and your family, the easier it’ll be for a new family to imagine creating their own memories there.
4. Make your interior more neutral
Maybe you adore the bright red walls in your dining room or the mustard-colored rug that livens up your den. But when you’re looking to sell your home, neutral colors are often a better bet. So, it could pay to repaint “louder” walls and replace brighter rugs or accent pieces with neutral colors — think light brown, beige, gray, or sand.
5. Let the sunshine in
There’s something about the presence of natural light that can make a home more appealing. Open the window shades and curtains to let in the sun, and move furniture that normally blocks windows so you’re not limiting how much light gets in.
While staging your home will require some effort, the upside is that it could help you attract a buyer sooner than you’d think. And, with any luck, it will be one who’s willing to pay top dollar for your home.
